Special Istanbul Swatch

Swatch has designed a special watch for Istanbul. This is a result of a cooperation with the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency. The watch includes a skyline featuring well-known Istanbul sites such as the Bosporus, the Maiden’s Tower, the Hagia Sofia Museum and the Blue Mosque. This watch will most certainly only be available at official Swatch dealers in Turkey.

We proudly present the latest additions to the Swatch Chrono Automatic Collection—two stylish new models with alligator pattern leather straps, Right Track White (SVGK406) and Right Track Blue (SVGK407). Both new models feature windows in the case back presenting a direct view of the self-winding mechanical movement at the heart of the Collection. The two new models offer a classic and elegant alternative for the style-conscious man or woman with an eye for contemporary design, precision quality and value in a mechanical watch.

Happy collecting!

Happy collecting!

If you are in your thirties or forties you will remember the 1980’s. Anyone who has a clear memory of these years knows how popular the Swatch Watch was. The name ‘Swatch’ means ‘Second Watch’

In todays modern world swatch makers have concentrated on making quality watches. You are still able to buy the bright colorful Swatch Watches that we all know and love but they now also offer the buyer a classy alternative. Swatch watch is one of the most popular types of watches across the planet and there are collectors everywhere.

Some 5000 different designs have found their way onto wrists and into collections since the original 12 watches were released in March 1983. New models generally make their debuts twice yearly as members of five design “families” – Originals (plastic case), Skin (ultra-thin case), Beat (digital), Bijoux (jewelry line), and Irony (metal case). These groupings are further divided into sub-families. Most retail for between $50 and $150.

Collectors have been willing to pay from $50 to $1000+ for the privilege of acquiring pieces that have been retired or that are “errors,” variations, or prototypes, but the specimens that really set hearts pounding are the extremely limited editions like the Art Specials and the Original Jelly. The Original Jelly, with a production run of just 200, was given to journalists at the late 1982 launch of the company brand. Today, an Original Jelly can easily fetch several thousand dollars at auction. The first Art Special – Kiki Picasso (1985) – was limited to just 140 pieces (some sources cite 120). Today, it can be worth over $20,000 depending on condition!

But it doesn’t have to be this expensive to start a collection if you concentrate on newer models that have not yet acquired the “vintage” cachet (or the price tags!). Just remember to buy what you like, for though they may or may not become highly valuable, at least you can enjoy them!

Three not issued Swatches Fall/Winter 2008

These three Swatches were all ready to be sold with the 2008 Fall/Winter collection. At the last moments Swatch decided not to sell them. Just a small preseries of 100 pieces was produced, making them extremely rare. All have the design year 2007 on the dial.

This week we received a few of each of them.
